Trolls are a prickly bunch. Well, more rock-hard, really, but prickly gets to the heart of their mood. They don’t much care for mushbumps. That’s what they call people like you and me. Don't get me wrong. A nice, juicy human appetizer suits them just fine every now and then. They just can’t stomach all the yelling and screaming.

University of Oxford Creative Writing Showcase a Success

After two years of honing our skills in fiction, narrative nonfiction, poetry, drama, and screenwriting as part of the MSt program in Creative Writing at the University of Oxford, my classmates and I presented excerpts from our final projects at the 2018 showcase. We spent the evening reading, celebrating, and hobnobbing with nearly 200 people from the writing and publishing community in Oxford's Kellogg College. Scottish author and keynote speaker A.L. Kennedy set the tone for the evening as she opened the event with a reading from her latest work, followed by some very enthusiastic words of encouragement. We were reminded that our writing touches people in meaningful ways, and that matters.

I read a selection from my novel in progress, titled The Rules of Loneliness. All of the 2018 Showcase Celebration Readings have been compiled and sent to agents and publishers throughout the United Kingdom.

Congratulations to all of the 2018 Creative Writing students!
